Meet Dr. Tasha Dickerson, MD
Family Medicine Physician in Richmond, VA
Dr. Tasha Dickerson is a lifelong Richmond resident, and a career-long Richmond physician. She has nearly two decades of practice in family medicine, and has a special interest in, and has completed coursework in functional medicine. “I am dedicated to providing comprehensive and personalized care for my patients,” she says.
Dr. Dickerson took her medical training at Virginia Commonwealth University, and is certified in family practice by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. She has participated in 20 different clinical research trials in the last decade for insulin therapy, cardiovascular events, gout, meningitis, hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and osteoarthritis — research that helps drive improved patient outcomes.
“Our current treatment model is sometimes just ‘These are the symptoms, and these are the medicines to suppress them,’ ” she says. “Functional medicine is different. It considers the major functions of the body and whether they are working properly, when they go wrong, how to repair them. The oxidation system, for example; the elimination and respiration systems. If they are not operating correctly, we want to find and treat the problem before it develops into an actual disease.”
Dr. Dickerson always told people she was going to be a doctor, she recalls. By age five, she carried a toy red plastic medical bag. She makes her home in the Short Pump area with her husband and two sons. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She pursues volunteer community work that until recently included a long commitment to the LINKS program, where she has mentored middle and high school girls toward healthier living and encouraging them to pursue higher education. Recently, she was the recipient in 2023 of the national Presidential Lifetime Achievement award for her lifelong commitment to volunteer service, bestowed by President Joseph Biden.
